New Highway To Link Moscow With St. Petersburg

17 March 2005
New Highway To Link Moscow With St. Petersburg

The construction of the Moscow-St. Petersburg highway is one of the most interesting projects for private investors, head of the department of the infrastructure development and investments of the Russian Transportation Ministry Oleg Shakhov told journalists on Wednesday.

According to him, the new high-speed highway will be 70 kilometers shorter than the existing road and will not cross settlements.

"Therefore, the average speed will be 150 km per hour," Mr. Shakhov said.

On March 10 the Russian Transportation Ministry summed up the results of the contest on the justification of investments into the construction. The winner is the Russian-British consortium.

The general designer is the GIPRODORNII Russian design institute. Ernest & Young and Ramboll joined the consortium as financial and technical consultants correspondingly.
